PHP - Download MySQLi Data As JSON Object

In this tutorial we will create a Download MySQLi Data As JSON Object using PHP. This code can download JSON object from MySQLi database with one click in instance. The code itself use href or Hyperlink Reference to launch specific function that will force download the MySQLi data into JSON object. This is a user-friendly kind of program feel free to modify it. We will be using JSON as a data management to store user data, and it will act as a database storage. It is an open-standard file format that uses human-readable text to transmit data objects into the local server.

Getting Started:

First you have to download & install XAMPP or any local server that run PHP scripts. Here's the link for XAMPP server https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html. And, this is the link for the bootstrap that i used for the layout design https://getbootstrap.com/.

Creating Database

Open your database web server then create a database name in it db_download_json, after that click Import then locate the database file inside the folder of the application then click ok. tut1

Creating the database connection

Open your any kind of text editor(notepad++, etc..). Then just copy/paste the code below then name it conn.php.
  1. <?php
  2. $conn = mysqli_connect("localhost", "root", "", "db_download_json");
  3.
  4. if(!$conn){
  5. die("Error: Failed to connect to database!");
  6. }
  7. ?>

Creating The Interface

This is where we will create a simple form for our application. To create the forms simply copy and write it into your text editor, then save it as index.php.
  1. <!DOCTYPE html>
  2. <html lang="en">
  3. <head>
  4. <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
  5. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
  6. </head>
  7. <body>
  8. <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
  9. <div class="container-fluid">
  10. <a class="navbar-brand" href="https://sourcecodester.com">Sourcecodester</a>
  11. </div>
  12. </nav>
  13. <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  14. <div class="col-md-6 well">
  15. <h3 class="text-primary">PHP - Download MySQLi Data As JSON Object</h3>
  16. <hr style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"/>
  17. <div class="col-md-4">
  18. <form method="POST" action="save.php">
  19. <div class="form-group">
  20. <label>Firstname</label>
  21. <input type="text" name="firstname" class="form-control" required="required"/>
  22. </div>
  23. <div class="form-group">
  24. <label>Lastname</label>
  25. <input type="text" name="lastname" class="form-control" required="required"/>
  26. </div>
  27. <div class="form-group">
  28. <label>Address</label>
  29. <input type="text" name="address" class="form-control" required="required"/>
  30. </div>
  31. <center><button class="btn btn-primary" name="save">Save</button></center>
  32. </form>
  33. </div>
  34. <div class="col-md-8">
  35. <a class="btn btn-primary" href="generate.php"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-save"></span> Generate</a>
  36. <br /><br />
  37. <table class="table table-bordered">
  38. <thead class="alert-info">
  39. <tr>
  40. <th>Firstname</th>
  41. <th>Lastname</th>
  42. <th>Address</th>
  43. </tr>
  44. </thead>
  45. <tbody>
  46. <?php
  47. require 'conn.php';
  48. $query = mysqli_query($conn, "SELECT * FROM `member`") or die(mysqli_error());
  49. while($fetch = mysqli_fetch_array($query)){
  50. ?>
  51. <tr>
  52. <td><?php echo $fetch['firstname']?></td>
  53. <td><?php echo $fetch['lastname']?></td>
  54. <td><?php echo $fetch['address']?></td>
  55. </tr>
  56. <?php
  57. }
  58. ?>
  59. </tbody>
  60. </talbe>
  61. </div>
  62. </div>
  63. </body>
  64. </html>

Creating the PHP Query

This code contains the php query of the application. This code will store the data input to MySQLi database server. To make this just copy and write these block of codes below inside the text editor, then save it as save.php.
  1. <?php
  2. require_once'conn.php';
  3. if(ISSET($_POST['save'])){
  4. $firstname=$_POST['firstname'];
  5. $lastname=$_POST['lastname'];
  6. $address=$_POST['address'];
  7.
  8. mysqli_query($conn, "INSERT INTO `member` VALUES('', '$firstname', '$lastname', '$address')") or die(mysqli_error());
  9.
  10. header('location: index.php');
  11. }
  12. ?>

Creating the Main Function

This code contains the main function of the application. This code will download the MySQLi data into JSON object. To make this just copy and write these block of codes below inside the text editor, then save it as generate.php
  1. <?php
  2. require 'conn.php';
  3.
  4. $output = "";
  5.
  6. header("Content-Type: application/json");
  7. header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=member.json");
  8. header("Pragma: no-cache");
  9. header("Expires: 0");
  10.
  11. $query = $conn->query("SELECT * FROM `member`");
  12.
  13. $array = array();
  14.
  15. while($fetch = $query->fetch_assoc()){
  16. $array[] = $fetch;
  17. }
  18.
  19. $output .=
  20. "<pre>".print_r($array).'</pre>';
  21.
  22. ?>
