  2. <html lang="en">
  3. <head>
  4. <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
  5. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
  6. </head>
  7. <body>
  8. <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
  9. <div class="container-fluid">
  10. <a class="navbar-brand" href="">Sourcecodester</a>
  11. </div>
  12. </nav>
  13. <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  14. <div class="col-md-6 well">
  15. <h3 class="text-primary">PHP - Simple Get File Extension</h3>
  16. <hr style="border-top:1px dotted;"/>
  17. <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  18. <div class="col-md-6">
  19. <form method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data">
  20. <div class="form-group">
  21. <label>Upload file</label>
  22. <input type="file" name="file" required="required" class="form-control"/>
  23. </div>
  24. <center><button class="btn btn-primary" name="get">Get Extension</button></center>
  25. <br />
  26. <?php include 'get_extension.php'?>
  27. </form>
  28. </div>
  29. </div>
  30. </body>
  31. </html>

Creating the Main Function

This code contains the main function of the application. This code will display the file extension when the button is clicked. To make this just copy and write these block of codes below inside the text editor, then save it as get_extension.php

  1. <?php
  2. if(ISSET($_POST['get'])){
  3. $filetype = $_FILES['file']['type'];
  4. $filesize = $_FILES['file']['size'];
  7. if($filesize > 500000){
  8. echo "<script>alert('File too large to upload')</script>";
  9. echo "<script>window.location = 'index.php'</script>";
  10. }else{
  11. echo "<center><h4>The extension of the uploaded file is <span class='text-primary'>".$filetype."</span></h4></center>";

Virus note: All files are scanned once-a-day by for viruses, but new viruses come out every day, so no prevention program can catch 100% of them.

1. Re-scan downloaded files using your personal virus checker before using it.
2. NEVER, EVER run compiled files (.exe's, .ocx's, .dll's etc.)--only run source code.
