How to Attract Buyer as a Coder/Freelancer

Attracting buyer with the services that you can render as a computer programmer is not as easy as finding job locally. But certain techniques should apply if you want to catch attention of your prospective buyer. As a coder or freelancer your prospective buyers are those who think that you can handle the job that they require you to do.

The following are some of the examples of the things that you need to apply as a freelance programmer.

Share Your Source Code

Sharing your source code will significantly attract buyers. By doing this you will be contacted by anybody who needs your services. The buyer will probably look at your code and think if you can do his/her job.

Sharing source code on the internet doesn’t mean that you sacrifice your precious coding technique. It is by far as my experience is concerned, to open the gate of your greatness to the World Wide Web. Buyer will most likely select those people who they think can do the job that they like.

Like for example, emond is sharing a lot of source code here and I do believe that if he advertises his talent within his article, he can probably convince buyer to hire him. Emond has a lot of good source code and article and in fact his source code is one of the most popular on this website. It is read 72,752 times already at the time of this writing. His specialty is on mobile programming. If somebody needs a similar project he will certainly receive such offer.

Just like me, I did not expect that more opportunity will knock after I shared ALL of my source code. After sharing it my knowledge did not reduced but instead it increase because a lot of people are asking how to do this and how to do that.

Charge Your Buyer with Lowest Price

Once you found a buyer (i.e. somebody contacted you or hire you) do not charge him/her with expensive price. Instead charge him/her with reasonable price. Most of the students hire me and I charge them from $100 - $300.

Of course this price is exclusive only for students. A buyer that requires source code for company’s use is charge according to its functionality.

Improve Your Skills

Programming is a never ending field of study. You must study every day, finding new techniques, and improving your own skills. We are lucky enough to have internet as the number source of knowledge to lean on.

But how can you really improve your skills? As far as my experience is concerned once again, you cannot improve your skills if you are not task to do certain programming job. My skills in programming have changed tremendously because of my clientele. They told me to do this and to do that and this probably help me explore new and challenging problem.

You too, you can do this even without a buyer who requires you to do that job. But how? Browse the internet for open source application and modify the source code and upload it again on the website that allows source code submission. This website is one of the examples and there are so many others.

Don’t be afraid to be criticized. Just share whatever you have and improve it as long as you can. There may be somebody who will scream with your source code but let them do their part. Your goal is to improve yourself and nothing else.

I hope that his little guide will help you on your programming career. Your comment is highly appreciated. Just leave it below this article.
